In 1976 the American Glass
Artist, Josh Simpson discovered several handmade glass
marbles outside is kitchen door. Probably left there by
children a generation before, they were still just as
bright and colourful on the summer afternoon they were
lost. The discovery made him think of the longevity of
glass.
It was then that Josh first
began to make his glass planets, first hiding them near
his place and then leaving them behind in his travels.
After learning to fly Josh was able to drop them in remote
locations from the window of his plane.
In 2000 Josh started the
Infinity Project and each month gives away two Planets
inscribed with the infinity symbol, to be hidden somewhere
on this earth. Some of them are meant to discovered
quickly, while others are likely to lie hidden for
centuries. Since 2000 over 1,600 planets have been hidden.
To celebrate the first
birthday of the Community Foundation, the Foundation
applied for and were delighted to be awarded, a planet of
their own to hide in the Tumut Region and one to keep.

Supporters of the Foundation
were asked to nominate a special place in the region to
hide this gift.
The Infinity Planet in many
ways reflects the essence of the Community Foundation.
The Community Foundation
also wants to be discovered by people both now and in the
future.
The heart of the Planet is
of great beauty in its different shapes and colours and it
represents our region, the different towns and people,
their different wishes and desires for the development of
the place they live and for themselves.
The glass of the planet is
made of, is resilient and stands up against the test of
time. While the Community Foundation is still in its
infancy, like the glass of the planet the Community
Foundation will be an integral part of the future of this
region, standing the test of time.
And the word infinity, yes,
the Community Foundation will be here for infinity,
helping the community of our region to fulfil their
inspirations.
Thanks are given to Josh
Simpson of Shelburne America for his generosity. To learn

The Infinity Planet will
travel with the Foundation as a reminder of the aims of
the Community Foundation for the Tumut Region.

The Infinity
Planet has been placed somewhere throughout the Tumut
Region..... can you find it...?
